  • Testerone Replacement Use Risky

A recent warning issued by Health Canada following a study that testosterone increases cardiovascular problems.

Heart risks from testosterone replacements flagged by Health Canada

Heart attack, stroke, blood clot and heart rate problems identified with use of testosterone replacement

Testosterone replacements can increase the risk of serious heart and blood vessel problems, Health Canada says.

The regulator said 12 testosterone replacement products are available, such as Androderm, Andriol, Delatestryl, Androgel, Axiroin, Depo-Testosterone, Testim, and their equivalent generics.

Study shows testosterone therapy doubles the risk of heart attack

Men use the products because their bodies can€™t make enough testosterone.

"Health Canada has recently completed a safety review on testosterone replacement products," the department said Tuesday.

"This review found a growing body of evidence (from published scientific literature and case reports received by Health Canada and foreign regulators) for serious and possible life-threatening heart and blood vessel problems such as heart attack, stroke, blood clot in the lungs or legs; and increased or irregular heart rate with the use of testosterone replacement products."

Health Canada said it is working with manufacturers to update the product labels to describe the risk.

It also reminded the public about safety information on the use of testosterone products:

■They should not be used in men for non-specific symptoms if laboratory tests have not been done to confirm a low testosterone level and other possible causes for the symptoms have not been excluded.

■They should not be used in children under the age of 18 as the safety and effectiveness has not been established in these patients.

■They should not be used by women.

Patients should be assessed for cardiovascular risk factors before starting testosterone therapy.
It has become quite popular for older men to start using testosterone as a "fountain of youth" drug, but there are risks involved so a complete work up should be done before starting as well as periodic monitoring.

I have been on replacement therapy for years and no problems. Look at the study they used to come to these conslusions generally flawd in set up and delivery of medication.. One of the latest studies used men with normal levels of T and then used medication to lower the levels and then gave therapy to return to normal levels. Life Extension has the rebuttal argument on this study very interesting what these researchers will do.

Sorry to hear about your problems fridgemagnet and welcome back to the forum!

moe666, this article doesn't say not to use testosterone replacement therapy, but says there are risks involved that should be considered when using. You should also check to see who funded the studies that show testosterone benefits men and I'll bet many of them are paid for by the pharmaceutical companies.

Unfortunately fridgemagnet's atrial fibrillation may have been a result of testosterone use.

I sometimes will get the Andriol when i go to Thailand.
Maybe I will take 2 a day which is very low dosage, but it seems to help with the energy and libido.

They seem to be apprehensive about prescribing it in Canada, even though tv ads are on all the time.

You guys a much braver than I am...I wouldn't put anything in my body like that without blood work reviewed by a doctor and the med prescribed by the doc and monitored by the doc...I surely wouldn't self medicate with Thai drugs...

The best to you Fridgemagnet...I truly hope it all works out well...

Bodybuilders have been using anabolic steroids for years. Even Arnie S. Pro football players, too, will deadly results. Not nice to fool Mother Nature. If you want to stay younger, stop sugar, caffeine, soda pops, coffee, alcohol, white processed starches like white rice, bread, and pastries. Eat smaller meals and stop trying to eat like a pig until you're bloated. Never smoke or smoke any hallucinogenic drugs. Don't even inject or swallow them. Exercise lightly. I just do 5-10 pushups, 5-10 jumping jacks, neck twists, squats, bends, etc. Just exercise for muscle tone and not muscle building. I laugh at that idea that no pain is no gain. Good way to injure yourselves for a few weeks. If you are impotent Kamagra, Cialis, and Viagra will eventually lose their effectiveness because your blood vessels (sphincter) in your penis is going weak. Next option is Penile Implant. Check with your Urologist and ask whether your health insurance covers it and how much is your out-of-pocket expense. Don't be ashamed and procrastinate. If you're worried about your aged looks, just get used to it and learn to live with it. I have don't minor procedures like sagging lower lid surgical excision at Yangee Hospital, and they are very professional. Did a good job. Very lovely young nurses and clean well-lighted facilities. Front desk people are so polite. Every day I am in LOS I am made to feel welcome. Super nice people. Wish I had visited 50 years ago and visited every year thereafter. If you want you might check out Bumrungrad Hospital for a penile job. Surprised when I Google mapped this place that it is close to JW Marriot on Sukhumvit. Morgan Spurlock did an hour about this hospital on the CNN channel. So cheap and popular internationally. Lots of people with medical disorders and no insurance have been coming here for treatment. Do also try laser teeth whitening while in Pattaya. Paid B5500 for the required dental cleaning and whitening job. Lovely assistant held my hands for a while, and it felt good not being lonely for an hour. Next time I'll have a full dental checkup with X-rays. Lots of people here like the dentists and doctors with their low prices. Have seen one European who brought his gay boyfriend and paid for his dental work.
