a whole lotta bombings going on

Ever heard the saying, "Profit from a disaster?" Hopefully in about 3 months the hotel and airplane rates will drop significantly. Thailand has already shot itself in the feet many times recently and now this trouble gets added to the mix. Should I expect the dollar-baht to drop to 40 Bahts? Maybe we'll get lucky and BF's and ST's will shrink back to normal.

They have been doing their best to discourage tourists lately for sure but people are still coming. There has been some bombings in Thailand but it is still quite safe.
In the Muslim south there is a fair amount of violence but most of Thailand is pretty calm. There still is danger in the fact it is still and under developed country and almost anyone could have a gun or other weapon, usually much easier than your home country probably.

It was unusual to hear of a bombing in Hua Hin as it is a pretty quiet relaxed place.

It could be politically motivated as this is a popular resort for the elite.

Still there was the Erwan Shrine Bombing last year which was their biggest ever I believe.

If you look at the history of bombings, you will see it is not so bad.
