  • Laos to Cambodia

Hi guys, got to leave Thaland soon to renew my visa, so going to take a bit of a trip while doing it. At some stage I will find myself crossing the border from Laos to Cambodia, and hopefully on to Siam Riep the same day.

Basically any info on the best way to go about it, companies to use, scams to watch out for, any potential hassles.

Cheers for any help you can give me.

    BB

What's your plan? Going to Vientiane and then travel down south into Cambodia?

Was in siem reap last January.

Angkor is a must see, and in all a nice town.

KL is spot on. I visited Angkor Wat back in 2004. I had booked 2 N/3D tour, but it was actually too short. I am planning a return visit sometime to see more of the sights I missed last time.

BB if Angkor Wat is one of your planned visits, be flexible in the amount of days you stay in Siem Reap - it is well worth the visit!

suggest you get your visa in Vientiane at the Thai Embassy - Close to Phatuxai (Independent Monument). Usually takes only one day - no need to use the "Pusher Service" outside the Embassy - does not make it faster- only saves you the time to stand in line - not long though. Pick up your visa the next day...

Take the bus to Pakse and on to the border to Cambodia. No through service - have to use smaller taxis and actually walk over the border - Visa on arrival for Cambodia....

Always good to have US $ for the visa on arrival in Laos and Cambodia - the e-rates to Thai Baht or Euro are really bad.

                    have fun

Cheers for all the info guys.

The situation is I am travelling with my brother for 2 weeks, we want to see Laos and Cambodia. As I have a double entry tourist visa for Thailand, the moment I enter Thailand the second one becomes active, therefore I cannot travel from Laos via Thailand to Cambodia.

Good info Omosh about the visa on arrival, may go for that option, and get a load of dollars in Thailand before I leave. Does the Laos/ Cambodia border close at a particular time do you know.

Is there a bus service from the border to Siam Riep?

                      Cheers BB

i don't know shite about laos and barely more about cambodia, but i'd bet blind that bali trumps them both.
it's kinda like getting to LOS in the first place -- the damn plane ticket bites ya, but after that, it's soooo worth it.

Bali is the best choice from the above
