  • Cheap Money Transfers?

There may be some other services out there like this but I found a cheap way to transfer money to any bank account.

I sent 5000 baht to Thailand to try it out.
On 10 Mar 2017 you agreed to purchase THB 5,000.00 at 25.13970 at a total cost of CAD $198.89.
You were not charged a transfer fee for this transaction.

Bank of Canada shows the general non cash rate for March 10 as 26.25

CAD-THB note selling rate for March 10:
    Bangkok Bank 26.52 = $188.54
    Krungskri Bank 26.58 = $188.11

So it appears I paid about $10 for the exchange.
Bangkok Bangkok Charged 200 baht for receiving the transfer = $7.53 CAD
So over all I paid around $18 for the whole transfer and it took 5 business days.

I was able to transfer the money through a bill payment to xe.com which is free.
Once they receive my payment they send the transfer.
So I can do everything online which is handy.
Not sure how good it is for larger amounts but I will try.
For sending small amounts to your girlfriends bank it seems reasonable.
Before bank to bank transfers generally cost $40-60 CAD plus exchange.
Western Union is very expensive too.

I found this one seems to offer a similar service.

That's another good option - it has been confirmed that the charge for foreign ATM cards in Thai bank ATMs has been increased to 220 Baht.

Not sure where you saw 22,000 - my post updated the new rate of 220 Baht service charge for foreign ATM cards used in Thai bank ATMs.

Oh. The word "change" should have been "charge". It used to be that the max you get withdrawn from an ATM was B22K three years ago. I like bringing traveler's checks in US$500 denominations. Sometimes the ATM is down. I can sign 4 of these checks and get $2K worth of bahts in a bank inside Central Festival. Good enough for two weeks in Pattaya. They are very good about checking their authenticity and give you your money with a smiles. Not stink looks like the Philippines and Brazil or that lazy "Inokea" bored look in other countries. It's 34.73 Bahts to the Dollar now on March 21, 2017. Only 8 more months till the LBWVB contest.

Here is the cheapest fastest money transfer I have found from Canada.

            CIBC Global Money Transfer
            https://www.cibc.com/en/personal-ban...-transfer.html

Since this is a Canadian charter bank so it is fast, it take 1-2 days. Usually the next day.
I can do this right from my online banking and not have to go to another site.
Bangkok bank does not seem to charge any fee for this one on incoming transfers.
