  • 1 Night in Bangkok

With a flight arriving after 10 PM, do you guys think it's worth it to bust my ass to get to Nana plaza before it closes? If the bars close around 2 AM, does the action die down right away? Plus, would a taxi driver even want to take me to a hotel on Sukhumvit 4 at that time of night or is the traffic too crazy? I was planning on staying at the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 to be near the action. My rough estimate is to get checked in by midnight and be at Nana around 1.

I think it would be doable, but I don't want a lot of hassle with traffic and if the good talent is all pretty much picked over by then, maybe I shouldn't bother. I'll be flying in from the Philippines after a week of cavorting with ladyboys there, so my itch won't need to be scratched too much and the next day I'm off to Pattaya for fun and sun there.

I could also try an escort service (smooci.com/bangkok/trans caught my eye). Or I could just go to Pattaya that night so I could get an early start the next day.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks for all.

    Cheers!

No taxi driver will complain about driving you to Nana area any time really.
However late at night like that is not busy, you will zoom down the freeway and be there in no time, possibly 20-30 minutes.
Sometimes Soi 4 gets a little crowded but your hotel is about 2 blocks from Nana Plaza with a sea of freelancers in-between.

Some bars in Nana close at 2am and some like Temptations I think stay open until 3.
Nana Plaza is never picked over for ladyboys, there is probably at least 100 ladyboys working in the bars on a slow night.
Plus around closing time the area in front of Nana, most of the ladyboys hang around out in front for a while.

If you are in the mood for ladyboys when you get in there is plenty of options without resorting to and escort service.
Escort services you will just get the same ladyboys for 4 times the price.
At worst thaifriendly.com is the only best option for booking ladyboys in Thailand, anything with escort in the name and you will pay.

Nana bars will have the bar fine but if you can grab them off the street then you save that anyway.
Taking freelancers off the street is a little riskier but still an option, plus as I say, the bar ladyboys will be out front for a while after closing time.
You can buy a beer at 7-11 and drink it on the street except they stop serving liquor in stores at midnight.

Plus only several blocks past Nana Plaza is Check In Bar which almost always stays open until 3am or later.
Then a ways past that is Why Not Bar that often never closes or stays open very very late.
You probably need a taxi for Why not bar but late at night the streets are deserted and taxis are easy to get on Sukhumvit.
Even a couple blocks from your hotel the other direction from Nana is Chaos 9 Bar which also stays open quite late.
So there is no shortage of ladyboys or resorting to escort services.

However going straight to Pattaya is ok since the freeway is deserted late at night.
If you go mid day the traffic can be quite bad but still usually ok.
Personally I would rather stay in Bangkok rather than arrive in Pattaya at 3am.

CragR's post is almost perfect. you have another option remaining : if you don't find a ladyboy at Nana Plaza or Why Not bar, you can still hang on Sukhumvit between soi 3, soi 4 and soi 21. You will find freelancers hanging there for a meeting. they are either students, newbies or former bar dancers and even ladyboys from Smooci looking for another option.

Thanks guys for the excellent advice...more research is needed. I forgot to say that this will be my first trip to Thailand. Maybe I'll try Why Not and/or Check In bar and do Nana plaza on my return leg. I HAVE to see and experience Nana Plaza! I've got 9+ months still to figure it all out. I think you're right Crag, that it would be best to go to Pattaya in the daytime...even it it's just so I can enjoy the scenery during the day rather than in the middle of the night.
