Why would a technology school have a special toilet for kathoeys? How many kathoeys really go to technology schools? It's my understanding that the job prospects are fairly low for ladyboys (i.e. you can work retail, work in a salon, work cabaret, or work in a bar pretty much). All the ladyboys I've met pretty much stated to me that office work in the business world is pretty much off-limits to them.
I have heard that many ladyboys continue on to university (non-working ones that is), but I never quite understood why if there ability to use any degree they get is severly limited. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Well, some still try! It's also a social prestige thing and it depends what family background they have. It's true that very few get office jobs and of course no blue chip companies or influential Thai companies would ever hire a LB for a mid management position. There are several brilliant MBA tgirls out there who just can't get higher than a product manager level. But hey, that's even a lot better than in the west! All farang TS I know are above 40, unemployed, trying hard to work as escorts or if they are lucky do some freelance computer work at home.
Benz from KC3 who has appeared on Asiants a couple of times had to leave her job at the airport as she was a LB. Its a shame as she is one smart cookie and wouldnt it be great to be checked in for your flight by a LB? Or as an air stewardess.
Over the years I have met a few non working ladyboys in all sorts of jobs.
One was final year dental student and another worked for a government bureau. Most jobs are open to all, if they are prepared to stay at school and get the relevant qualifications.
seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

Maybe some folk view university/college as something more than a "trade" school. Ain't nothing wrong with going just to get an education.

From what I have seen/heard the biggest 'no-go' areas for ladyboys are 'name' companies. I guess they don't want to prejudice their image. I don't believe that applies to all of them though.
Certainly although descrimination is illegal in Thailand it does still happen. Still I can say the same about the UK
RR.
Pedants rule, OK. Or more precisely, exhibit certain of the conventional trappings of leadership.

i think its good for a lot of LB's to get an education for future use like establishing a business and use what they learn from the university for public relation or any types of business shit like managing and money counting ect......cause not all the time we are beautiful, as we get old our beauty spell will not work and in the business of prostitution beauty is number one criteria
of course bank savings is also one thing to make this work

While it may be true that discrimination is illegal in Thailand and that it is *possible* for ladyboys to enter in almost any profession, I confirmed what RR has said with two native Thai friends I met at my university that I still keep in touch with. One works with a major logistics firm and the other is in banking, both with big-name firms. They were both unaware of any transgender staff at their firms and doubted that one would ever make it through the hiring process. So in a way, it is de facto discrimination that makes it impossible for LBs to make it in the professional world. I assume that this would extend to other industries and not just the business world.
I do make exception Stogie, that one may be a prostitute at one point in their life, but if they possess the qualifications and educational credentials, I believe it is possible for them to enter into the mainsteam workforce so long as their previous profession is not disclosed. It is Thailand though, so who knows, I could be way off base here.
