I think the best thing to do to find out if someone is good is meet them for an introductory drink and see if they sound sincere and not some lazy guy who wants to play fast and get out of the hotel room. About changing money in Thailand. It does take a longer time to verify traveler's checks and is better to use ATM cards to get money. I found out that ATM's will deliver only a max of B30K. TC's can only be cashed a max of US$1K. Not $2K. Both transactions cost B200 service charge. So it is better to bring and change cash if you want to skip the B200 charge and get your money quickly. But I still carry $10K TC's just in case I lose my ATM card or cash. TC's are my insurance for any unexpected emergencies if credit cards are not accepted or the ATM machine is down. Having all three forms of money gives me a wonderful peace of mind. Spent $3500 for hotels (2 days at the brand new Novotel Sukhumvit 4), $800 for RT from Honolulu, $5K in TC's and $300 cash. Ate like a king, shopped like crazy with all the Christmas discounts in December, and make lots of friends (plus 3 schmucks). Will be back maybe for Songkran and Singapore (first visit). Wonderful bad habit to own.
