  • True shemale

I'm kinda new to the site, and need some help with terminology.

The bio says that Kahk is a "true shemale," as opposed to a ladyboy. What is the distinction?

Whatever it means, she is definitely gorgeous and sexy.

    transgendered, TG, T*, trans
an umbrella term including just about anyone who acts or thinks in a manner not socially approved for the gender assigned him or her at birth. T* is a computerish abbreviation for all the variants of trans-whatever: TV, TG, TS. "Trans" is a newer term that avoids the frequent misunderstanding between the meanings of "transgendered" and "transgenderist."

    transgenderist, TG
One who lives in the social role opposite that of the sex assigned at birth, but who does not intend to have surgery, and may not wish to take hormones. Note that the term overlaps somewhat both with transgendered (although it is rarely used in this fashion) and with transsexual. It most commonly refers to MtFs, as FtM surgery remains much less accepted. Note that to refer to someone as "transgendered" does not in any way suggest that they are, or should be, transgenderists.

    transsexual, TS
One for whom the sex assigned at birth is incorrect; some take hormones, some will have surgery to correct the genitals. "Preop" or preoperative transsexual refers to one who has not had SRS (q.v.); "postop" or postoperative to one who has. "Non-op" transsexuals have not had SRS, and have accepted that for a variety of reasons (including health-related, financial, relationships, or other things) they will not be having SRS in this lifetime.

    transvestite, crossdresser, TV, CD
One who dresses (for any of a number of reasons) in clothing appropriate to the sex opposite that assigned at birth, but whose gender identification generally remains that of the birth-assigned sex. "Transvestite" is sometimes regarded as an epithet or as too clinical.

    intersexed
An intersexual is someone for whom the process of biological sex differentiation has been non-standard.

    SRS [GRS]
Sex Reassignment Surgery [Gender Reconciliation Surgery, Genital Reassignment Surgery]. The surgical process of creating a phallus or vagina; also, sometimes used to refer to "upper" surgery--mastectomy or breast implants. Colloquially, a "sex-change operation."

    HRT
Hormonal Reassignment [or Replacement] Therapy. The medical process of inducing changes in the body by taking hormones appropriate to one's gender identity.

    transition
Sometimes used to refer to the whole process from the end of denial to whatever the culmination may be; most often encountered as a synonym for going full-time.

    full-time
Going full-time, or living full-time, in the social role of the sex opposite that assigned at birth. Required by the SOC before surgery, and in that context may be referred to as the real-life test (RLT).

    F->M, FtM, F2M
Female to Male crossdresser, transsexual, etc. Alone, TS is usually implied.

    M->F, MtF, M2F
Male to Female crossdresser, transsexual, etc. Alone, TS is usually implied.

    SOC, HBIGDA SOC, ICTLEP SOCM
Standards of Care. The usual reference, and the most widely followed guidelines, are the Henry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association "Standards of Care: The Hormonal and Surgical Sex Reassignment of Gender Dysphoric Persons." The International Conference on Transgender Law and Employment Policy has also created and published a document called Standards of Care.

How much do all these labels matter? Not a lot, really. There's no right or wrong way to be transgendered; either you are or you aren't and that's about it. Besides that, there isn't a label to fit each and every person; some fit more than one, and some fit none at all. And people change.

This is certainly not a complete list of all the terms and abbreviations you may see or hear in conversations among the gender-bender community. While there are more complete lists available, I'd recommend against using any of them as a "classification guide." They're much more diverse than that.

Here are some more that you may find useful...

As in many social groups and subcultures, the Transgender Community has developed a language to call it's own. As it has come more into the open so too has the understanding of its diversity and and the terms used to define individuals and their life situations. These 'slang' terms are often used as a 'shorthand' reference, - sometimes not neccessarily in a complimentary manner - to describe people who find their lifestyle in a state of transition.
24 / 7 (Twenty-four hours / Seven days a week). An individual who, generally, has not yet undergone sex reassignment but prefers to live and work in the gender role opposite to that of their birth.

49er (Forty-Niner). A very large, generally muscular and heavy-built, male dressed in female attire who's real gender identity is obvious.

Andro. Short for Androgynous. Usually applied to a person who's gender identity is not apparent.

BAD (Boy-in-A-Dress). A young man just starting out on the life journey of transition. Usually used as a derogatory term for an inexperienced young male who has yet to learn the art of female dress and the application and use of cosmetics.

Being Read. A slang term for being identified for the gender of origin.

Butch. Masculine or macho dress and behaviour, regardless of sex or gender identity.

Butch Queen. A popular --if somewhat derogatory-- term often applied to macho/fems.

Catching The 'T'. A slang term synonymous with "Being Read" or identified for the gender of origin. The 'T' being short for 'The Truth'.

Chicks with dicks.Transexual term for a transvestite.

Cocks in frocks. Transexual term for a transvestite.

Crossdresser. A person who dresses in the clothing of the opposite sex. Generally, these persons do not alter their bodies. Clinically called a Transvestite, the term 'Crossdresser' is preferred by many.

Come-Fuck-Me-Pumps. A slang term, synonymous with "Spikes", usually referring to high-heeled footwear that shows-off the legs and bottom to their best advantage.

Drag Queen. Generally a crossdresser who usually goes to wild extremes, whether towards a glamorous or camp end.

Endocrine system. Technical term for the hormone system, see below.

Endocrinologist. A doctor specialising in the hormone system.

      F2M Female-to-Male.

Fag Hag. A derogatory term for a woman who hangs around homosexual men.

Feeding them... Accentuating a particular physical characteristic usually to attract specific attention to one's attributes... as in feeding them waist and hips... accentuating the smallness of your waist and the fullness of your hips.

Female Impersonator. One whose art is that of impersonating women, ie Danny La Rue, Lily Savage

Gender Bender. A term describing someone who presents an androgenous persona to onlookers, high profile examples of this include, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Boy George, k.d.lang and Madonna.

Gender Dysphoria. The medical term for someone who has an overwhelming desire to be the opposite gender to that which they were born.

GG (Genetic Girl). Naturally birthed Female. (Also, GW for Genetic Woman)

GM (Genetic Male). Naturally birthed Male.

GRS Gender Reassignment Surgery. See SRS.

Hormones. Like most aspects of human chemistry, the endocrine system --which controls the body's production and balance of hormones, including sex hormones-- is still, at best, only loosely understood. However, one thing is for certain, hormones represent some of the strongest and subtlest chemicals produced by the body and should not be 'messed-with' without extreme caution. Always consult a doctor before using, or contemplating the use of, sex hormones on your body.

HRT (Hormonal Reassignment Therapy). The introduction of the body to the hormones that affect the secondary sex characteristics of a transsexual.

In drab. Wearing clothes and an attitude supposedly deemed appropriate to one's gender of origin. See, Wall Street Drag

      M2F Male-to-Female.

Mahu. A traditional Hawaiian term for M2F transgendered individuals.

Passing. The opposite of "Being Read". A term often used to describe your 'natural' ability to be accepted by most people as your preferred gender.

Real Life Test. A period of not less than one year and more normally two years in the UK. Which a pre-op TS must live in the gender role they plan to adopt after surgery.

She-Male. A popular --if often demeaning-- term, generally used by non-transgendered males seeking sex, to describe M2F transsexuals.

SOC (Standards of Care.) The guidelines established by the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, as the minimum guidelines for a Transsexual Physical and Psychological Transition.

      Spikes. Extremely high, stilleto heels.

SRS Sexual Reassignment Surgery. In certain respects the final irreversable step.

T* (Trans.) An umbrella term covering people of the Transgender Community.

Tiajuana Tuck & Roll. A term used to refer to SRS performed in Mexico.

Tranny. A popular term, not derogatory, used here and also Australia and New Zealand to refer to a transgender individual.

TG (Transgender). A term used to include Transsexuals, Transvestites, and Crossdressers. It can also represent a person who, like a Transsexual transitions, sometimes with the help of hormone therapy and/or cosmetic surgery, to live in the gender role of choice. But has not undergone and generally does not intend to undergo Sexual Reassignment Surgery.

TS (Transsexual). A person who feels a consistent and overwhelming desire to transition and fulfill their lives as members of the opposite gender. Most transsexuals actively desire and complete Sexual Reassignment Surgery.

Tucked. Looks very cute but can be really uncomfortable after many hours.

TV (Transvestite). The clinical name for a Crossdresser. A person who dresses in the clothing of the opposite sex. Generally, these persons do not alter their body.

Wall Street Drag. Conforming during the day by dressing in the expected and respected manner, in the case of men three piece suit (with trousers!!), shirt and tie.
