  • China's Gender Imbalance

This is actually old news, but becoming receiving more air time. The gender imbalance (more men than women) is becoming critical in China. So might this lead to more lbs developing in China - possibly surpassing LOS? Ahh - just wild speculation, but imagine the possibilities!

€¢ China faces major gender imbalance
Jan. 12: China says it will have 30 million more men of marriageable age than women in less than 15 years. MSNBC.com's Dara Brown reports.

BEIJING - China will have 30 million more men of marriageable age than women in less than 15 years as a gender imbalance resulting from the country€™s tough one-child policy becomes more pronounced, state media reported Friday.

The tens of millions of men who will not be able to find a wife could also lead to social instability problems, the China Daily said in a front-page report.

China imposed strict population controls in the 1970s to limit growth of its huge population, but one side effect has been a jump in gender selection of babies. Traditional preferences for a son mean some women abort their baby if an early term sonogram shows it is a girl.

€œDiscrimination against the female sex remains the primary cause of China€™s growing gender imbalance,€ Liu Bohong, vice director of the women studies institute under the All-China Women€™s Federation, was quoted as saying in a report from the State Population and Family Planning Commission.

Sex selective abortion is prohibited but the government says the practice remains widespread, especially in rural areas.

    Anticipating social problems
The report, carried in the newspaper, said China€™s sex ratio for newborn babies in 2005 was 118 boys to 100 girls, a huge jump from 110 to 100 in 2000.

In some regions such as the southern provinces of Guangdong and Hainan, the ratio has ballooned to 130 boys to 100 girls, the newspaper said. The average for industrialized countries is between 104 and 107 boys for every 100 girls.

The report predicted that by 2020 the imbalance would mean men of marriageable age €” especially those with low income or little education €” would find it difficult to find wives, resulting in possible social problems.

The problem is not just a rural issue, with the newborn gender imbalance also widening in cities. In the first 11 months of 2006, there were 109 boys born in Beijing for every 100 girls.

China Daily said one way to solve the problem would be to create a proper social security system so rural couples would not feel they needed a son to depend on when they get old.

Up to 800 million of China€™s 1.3 billion people live in the countryside.

I think the Chinese government should make all the pretty boys into ladyboys and unleash them on the porno market!

Maybe in a few years we can go there for some talent... Hmmm...

Hmm, a visionary? lol! I think not, but maybe a purv, like the rest of the people here!

Actually think about it this way, currently China is estimated population of about 1.3 billion. Pretty huge numbers. The estimates of the prevalence of male to female transgenderism ranges from 1 in10000, to 1 in 250. So there is a potential of 70,000 to 2.8 million male to female ts in China. This was based on a guesstimate male population of about 700 million males and 600 million females.

In Thailand the guesstimates of lbs range from 10,000 to 300,000.

Anyway, as I said in the beginnng sheer speculation, but imagine what would happen if the Chinese government began to encourage tgs? In the recent past they have allowed lbs to marry, change their id papers to reflect their SRS status, so who knows?

China has big problems many of which go unreported due to govt censorship. This imbalance is actually more acute than even the Chinese will admit and the figure that Rx quoted are probably conservative.

I was reading a report before Xmas that indicated that there are riots in many towns cities on a regular basis caused by all sorts of grievances and the fact that many single men are loafing around brooding doesnt bode well.

            canon fodder?

looks like there'll be lots of

              in China.

This seems like a good opportunity for Southeast Asian women.

Social unrest? Could be. Sexual frustration brings out the worst in men.

Unfortunately civil unrest may be the most likely scenario - but hopefully not!

kaos - do you have direct knowledge of Chinese lbs? POL was there last year and had a hard time making contact with any in Beijing - I cannot remember if he made it to Shanghai. He did finally contact a postop in Beijing, but "nutty as a fruitcake" is how he described her, lol!

desertmax and a few others have shared info on lbs in other towns.

i think that many come from south china. i haven't exactly kept a map w/ pins in it for the lbs in the news in china, but it seems to me that most have been from south china. i imagine that large cities, and proximity to HK help a lot.

frankly, i think the rate at which the lbs are mentioned in china is growing like moore's law. first, it was jin xing, who was mentioned only sporadically. then harisu, who's been mentioned as much in china as in korea, and is very well known there. then chen lili and later liu xiaojing. lady's been mentioned there, but has dropped off just as they did in korea. i wouldn't be surprised if there is a chinese version in the next couple of years. they'd have the potential to really shake things up. on the downside, it would take balls to pull it off, but they'd have already had their balls pulled off...
Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.

The male surplus is just one factor .

e.g. Last year in Huxei 20,000 people confronted the police over a land pollution problem and rioted. This was one instance amongst many that go unreported due to lack of press freedom. In another town a swim in the local river now means coming out in large blisters.

The population is becoming more aggressive...by the day

At the top China is run by 60-80 year olds who dont know how to reconcile Communism and capitalism. Well the short answer is they cant. The middle class is growing at a exponential rate and they can only vote for the Red guy....no wonder the govt is trying to censor the internet.

A hundred million mainland Chinese tourists per year are expected withing five years and once these people taste the outside world and what they percieve as some kind of freedom they will start thinking for themselves.

POL is right, south of china is the place i have found more Guangzhou (former Canton) is plenty of LBs...but lets clear something you will not see them in the street or bars (unless you go to Macau or HK).
as i said everything is underground...i will not give any name or tel but i can tell you where to look.
most of LBs are students at Institute of Foreign Languages...they dress like boys but if you are good in this you can spot them when they are around in the north campus north of the Baiyun Hills and they do speak very good english.
in the same area there are also some Photo shops, these LBs like to take pics with all kind of fancies dress...well look for it
keep in mind that LBs in China dont take hormones and have short hair exactly the type i like

Considering how hairy most GGs are in China, and how few use cosmetics, I think it'll be a decade or more before we see many LBs. After all, if GGs don't feel the need to make themselves into princesses, how can a ladyboy claim such a need?

For now, it seems two places reign supreme for Asian LBs - LOS and PI. But, stay tuned to China. A bit more foreign encouragement could help. Next time you spend time with a girl in China, at least offer some cosmetics - building the beauty industry will indubitably help along the LB industry.
