3 killed, 60 injured when trains collide near Thai resort town
BANGKOK (CNN) -- Three railway officials were killed and 60 people injured early Sunday when two trains collided near the Thailand resort town of Hua Hin, according to the head of the Hua Hin train station.

Vichai Chuchaporn told CNN human error is suspected to have caused the collision, which occurred about 2:30 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. Saturday ET. The two trains were switching tracks at a switch point, but the northbound train failed to slow down during its approach and struck the southbound train, he said.

Authorities are investigating whether the driver of the northbound train may have fallen asleep, he said. All three of those killed were on the southbound train -- the driver, a mechanic and a cabin attendant. -- From CNN's Narunart Prapanya
