Academically speaking, where are "the kids" downloading their music these days?

I know of pie-rate bhay, but they're not so hot on obscure or non-popular tunes.

I know good sites for getting porn, but music is getting difficult to find.

Knappster obviously used to be great for finding just about anything you can think of, but it's gone commercial.

I've tried Lymewyre, but I just get a lot of spam when I search there. Any ideas anyone? I'm mostly looking for single songs of really obscure and cheesy stuff like "Afternoon Delight" and "I eat Cannibals", so it's not easy to find.

Remember them heady days of Napster and every old song was out there to be shared... They are harder to find now though...

But the two you mention are in my collection.

Toto Coelo - I eat cannibals
Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon delight

I have probably got anything else obscure that you want too... I have almost 10,000 songs in 40 Gigs of harddrive and to play them back to back would take 600 hours! (About 25 days!)

The best ways to find a song now is to scour the collections on the torrent sites and just download the tracks you like.

I've been building my collection for years and have everything now that I want from Franki Laine to Frankie Goes To Hollywood! Let me know of the other tracks you want and I'll try to find a way to get them to you

I find emule to be a good one to use, can download the entire album in zip/rar files, or even entire discographys. Napster was the good old days though and also audio galaxy was great for obscure music.

            I use Shareaza.

            www.shareaza.com

All kinds of genre, people from all over share their music, you can even down load complete albums, depending on your connection, ie. DSL it doesn't take long at all. Then you just down load from your hard drive to your mp3.

MIRC is a good way to find songs. A lot of the newer rooms only have servers hosting the newer stuff (i.e. hard to find obscure classics), but most will have the older hits also. I'm always able to find what's playing ATM on MIRC. Although if you want Euro hits that haven't hit American shores you may be out of luck.

                http://82.225.175.114/zik/

While I was setting up a Nameserver in Amsterdam I left it overnight to propagate. The next day there was this weird query from some server in France. So I checked it out and found all these MP3€™s on that IP. It looks like some kind of a private music collection and he was trying to setup a jukebox system maybe to stream music into his home network. must be 100's of MP3's on there.. have fun!

i find it harder to get music from japan and china, because most of our western sources lack many users from these countries, and the few westerns also interested in this stuff seem to have small collections and be on at rare times.

for downloading asian stuff, i find it's best to get connected with a source in asia, but it's not easy.
Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.
