  • Google search for books.

A writers' group representing over 8,000 authors is suing Google for "massive copyright infringement" over its fledgling programme of digitising library books.

The Authors Guild has issued legal proceedings in a New York court claiming damages and demanding the search engine stops uploading the contents of library books.

Google Print launched last October, enables people to search the contents of books online and, according to Google, makes it easier to find relevant books.

If you don't want your book, poem or whatever to be searched by the brilliant and very useful GOOGLE PRINT service then take the fucking thing OFFLINE! Problem solved!

Or is that too fucking easy!

PD, that is a total hoot! The sorry thing is that it's just too close to home though. Obviously, someone has been hacking Google a bit.

Ah, it isn't that easy. They're planning to scan several million books at major university libraries. So, it's not the case that they're using digital books, but they're going to copy milions of already published books. That violates copyright law.
Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.

It may violate copywrite laws, but if google is only doing this as an online library type thing and not making profits from it, then what?

Also - they are not publishing complete works of books. (Unless the copyright holder approves.)

Ah, but the very act of digitizing it violates the copyright. It's not about whether they redistribute it - that would simply be the second violation per book.
