  • What are you most ashamed of?

I thought of this topic after reading Stogie's thread about "What makes you so special"...

There are some things that colour my daily life precisely because they are such sources of shame.

For me, I am most ashamed that I was once divorced.

We had dated and got engaged during school and married right after graduation. We had had some issues prior to the wedding, and another big warning sign was that we matched for jobs in different places, so we knew we would not be together for at least a year after getting married.

It can be hard not to keep throwing good money after bad, and I really did not want it to fail. So when she asked for a divorce one short month after we got married, by phone, I felt like such an incredible failure, and my confidence at the time took a terrible beating.

In a sense we were never really married, but it still is very shameful thing for me.

Sometimes I wish I could just dive into the water and be washed completely clean of shame, so as to never think about it again.

I don't really expect too many people to volunteer much, but I wonder if it is ever possible to completely forget a shameful memory, or does it always have value because of the lessons it carries?

(goldmountain @ Apr. 30 2008,19:32) For me, I am most ashamed that I was once divorced.
    ..and so you should be!

Marriage is for life, not just for Christmas.

    Shame, shame on you.

    Me?

    I'm ashamed of nothing!

Regret a few things -- maybe
Embarassed by a few things -- sure
    Ashamed -- Nah, sorry

I am ashamed of having constantly cheated on my first wife, with boths gg's and lb's, which lead to divorce.
Then doing it again to my current wife.
However for many of us bi-sexuals the selfish thought of ending up "alone" means we continue our secret desires at the expense of the feelings of others.
If we had the guts we would remain single in order to fulfill our desires and not cause possible hurt to others.

Do you mean shame or guilt?

We feel guilt for what we do...We feel shame for who we are...

I occasionally feel guilty for things I have done, but I never feel shame for who I am...
