  • Intel vs. AMD processor chips...

I can't remember if this debat has been discussed already or not.
Maybe its just me but I have always had the best results running windows with some variation of the AMD athon or truion chips V.S. the Intel pentium or core duo chips.

What chip do you peeps feel is more realiable, AMD or Intel  ?
I say AMD is more realiable.
I have never done any research on this matter.  I am only speaking from having to trouble shoot my own computer problems.

I have three laptops and two desktop computers.
Two laptops have AMD, one Intel.
My desktops are one AMD, one Intel. In the past years its always been Intel. Ever since I switched to AMD I have had no computer issues whatso ever.

As they say in Thailand... Same Same!

Unusually; in my three laptops I have one of each. In the older one I have an AMD. In my new one is an Intel and in the netbook is the Atom...

I meant to vote AMD but accidentally voted for Intel.

I'm mainly a Mac user at heart, but my desktop is AMD.

i bought my wife a intel centrino 2 laptop. Its been performing well but it still seems slower than my AMD turion. But then again, she runs anti_virus and pop up blockers V.S. Me who runs all my computers Naked.

I've been running naked for about three years and seem to have less system problems V.S. running these background programs that are suppose to protect your system.

I guess over the years I've learned what to & what not to click on to exspose my system.

Yes, I dream of the day it Hits me.
I hope it hits me Like Ladyboy Mint with that Giant baseball bat Cock up my ass.

I really don't worry too much about running my computers naked anymore.
I have No critical information stored on my computer.  When I register my computers on start up, i dont use my real name nore do i pay bills online.

There is nothing on my C: drive that anyone can retrieve that they could use to steel my identidey.

Its my personal opinon, storing any of your personal data or critical information a computer is absoultley foolish.

I can buy another Laptop/desktop,  but it will take me years to get my identity back.

I'm not worried about identity theft or someone breaking into my bank account...

I use my computer(s) for work, and I am worried about losing work hours.
And there is nowhere else I could store the stuff except on computer-related media.
And there is so much stuff now that backuping everything is a pain.

If you use your computer just for games and webmail/internet, you're not really using a computer anyway. It is like using a car inside your garden, with pretty much the same inconvenience if it gets broken.

Mirimark, go over to symantec and download the free trial of Norton 360.

Do a deep scan, I guaranty with a smile you're computer is infected with multiple Trojans and other backdoors that€™ll make you just shit your pants.

Some torjans but especially botnets actually make you immune to other viruses as they want your CPU cycles all to themselves. Cheeky buggers want to make sure your computer doesn't slow down with other botnets.

Intel all the way for me...

As for anti virus -- I now use the free AVG, never had a problem since i started using this and got rid of Norton- a poisoned pill

I used to use Norton in the days of Dos 3 - 3.11 etc and it was very good then.
For some reason when Windows went more flashy Norton became more buggy and I found more than once was causing my computer to crash.
Ended up taking it off everything and solved the problems.

Since then I have been using Grisoft AVG plus Spybot search and Destroy.

Despite using this computer and it's predecessor for hunting spam links etc. I have only twice had attempted attacks both of which were contained and isolated by AVG.

Your probably correct. But if i am infected then why does my system run so well ?

What are these virus's doing ? Whats their Motive if they are not crashing my system ?

                              Mirimark,

Your computer may not be suffering any ill effects and as you say, you have nothing of value stored but anything your machine might have, could be passed to somebody else. This is how these nasties get spread.

Some people get their rocks off producing these nasties. I do know people that have been scammed, usually through no fault of theirs but the end result is not good.

Back to the main topic; in a PC, Intel versus AMD, always had better response and fewer crashes from an AMD system. Now mainly using a Mac but it does have an Intel chip inside. The only time the Mac crashed was at the end of the installation phase of the first update to Microsoft Office for the Mac. I think Microsoft is the bigger culprit for PC crashes; AMD may handle Microsoft a little better. My fairly new Dell (Intel) desktop does not like Internet Explorer at all - incredibly slow and frequent lock-ups; all other browsers work as they should.
