  • Who will quit the EURO first?

    Some info...

The euro (‚¬) is the official currency of the European Union and is currently in use in 16 of the 27 states, known collectively as the eurozone.

They are Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

Estonia is due to join the euro-zone on the 1st January 2011. The currency is also used in a further five European countries, with and without formal agreements, and is consequently used daily by some 327 million Europeans. Over 175 million people worldwide use currencies which are pegged to the euro, including more than 150 million people in Africa.

But it won't last. The vanity of the dreamy eyed idiots who put it all together will keep it going for a couple more years but something will have to change.

My money is on Germany having a referendum (or party vote) and pulling out. It's thought that Greece may decide to go it's own way and maybe we'll see the drachma back before you know it. Will the Irish decide that enough is enough? It would be much easier for an Island nation to bugger off (after the billions of aid it got!) It's never been that keen anyway.

The fucking idiots who thought this might work should be publicly hung. Thank fuck the Brits didn't get too deeply involved in this fiasco.

I personally thing that a German - France - UK currency called the Super-Euro is the ony way to get Europe back on track. And the other crap countries will just have to go back to swapping beans for eggs, etc.

I think Germany will leave first.

I don't really care which one. I just think that the USD, the Euro and the pound should all trade with the baht at the exact same rate. Never gonna happen, but it amuses me to see folks complain about 46 to 1. How would they like to try 32 to 1 for a while? And I think the Aussies dollar even trades at a worse rate than the US.

Back in the 80s, 1 USD could get you 2 British pounds. Then it completely flip flopped. I look forward to when 1 USD = 2 pounds again

The European Socialist Peoples Republic Union has so much at stake in this that I cannot see them letting it fail.

Incidently BS  -  you missed out that the Euro is the world's only non-political currency.
The European Politburo Commission said it has nothing to do with politics.

Early 80's £1 = about $2.05 - 2.10. As yet it has never been the other way around.

I'm thinking it may be time for another trip to Vienna

I wonder how the Czechs are feeling right about now......a year ago they were dying to get into the EU and start using their currency, I'm betting now they are happy they stayed with the Krona

I think the germans are too stubborn. They'll stay with it. Chances are someone intelligent will dump it first. But I don't think the euro will totally collapse.. it'll have a rough period.

I mean people have been saying forever the USD will collapse. Do you think America will allow it despite all its faults? So pretty much same with the euro.. they're not zimbabwe.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Well I don't think the Scandinavians will ever have to leave the Euro.

Why? Because they are not with the Euro.....they have their own Krones.

Actually some have suggested a Super Euro which would be Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark - possibly Finland and maybe France.

Would have been a much better idea in the first place!

I believe Sweden has also signed up subject to qualifying....but has a de facto opt out so effectively would need a referendum. Less chance of that one getting up in the current climate.

Since when is Finland a part of Scandinavia?

                              From Encyclopædia Britannica
                              Scandinavia:
part of northern Europe, generally held to consist of the two countries of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Norway and Sweden, with the addition of Denmark. Some authorities argue for the inclusion of Finland on geologic and economic grounds and of Iceland and the Faroe Islands on the grounds that their inhabitants speak North Germanic (or Scandinavian) languages related to those of Norway and Sweden.
If you count everything in, then it's 1/5th of Scandinavia (not counting the Faroe islands as an independent country with an independent currency.

BTW Sweden said no in 2003. Wiki:
A referendum held in September 2003 saw 56.1 percent vote against membership in the Eurozone. As a consequence, Sweden decided in 2003 not to adopt the euro for the time being. Had they voted in favour, Sweden would have adopted euro on 1 January 2006.
