  • Need Some Computer Help Right Now

Clicked on a link and instanteously I got a message from Internet Explorer saying my computer is infected all over and I'm at risk of a crash.

It's suggesting I click on something to remove it but my feeling is that clicking on it may be the very thing I don't want to do.

So right now I'm running my AVG anti-virus but that may be out of date, I don't know.

I also remeber someone telling me that one shouldn't shut off there computer cause the strt up cold be dangerous.

    Any ideas gents?

It's a fake ad - don't click it, just close the window and all will be fine.

        OK guys. Thanks!

        And am running the AVG.

What started it all was my looking for something to post on the Pointless thread.

And what could be more pointless than Two Girls One Cup.

Kind of interesting, I have a potential problem with a nasty virus.

Where do I go for help?

          To a transexual forum.

Sounds ridiculous but i just knew I'd get some solid advice here ASAP.

Go to tucom and buy a legit copy of Kaspersky, the Thai version is only 500 baht or so (its in English). Just get the simple single computer AV version.

Is this something I should do in general Snick?

Or something to do right now before I shut off my computer and go to sleep as a result of what just happened?

I would do it now, get the SW install it, have it scan the computer.

I have found an excellent free antivirus program - if you can accept pop up ads to upgrade to the paid edition when it updates, called Free-Av. It's from a German company and I've found it to be much better than Norton, McAfee, etc. Here's the link: Free-Av

I've been using it for years as well, and it's stopped any virus attempting to infect my laptops.

Next time you're purchasing a new computer, think about a Macintosh. 15 years as a Mac user, never had a virus yet.

                          Yea
Not that it applies in this situation.
There are some 'dodgy' torrent sites I use that occasionally host virus infected ads,I ONLY access those sites from my Mac - even though I run bittorrent on a Windows machine.

As others have said its a fake ad.

If you can, for all online porn and stuff or unsecure sites, use Opera browser for windows. Its probably the best security browser out there and prompts you before it downloads anything of any kind. Firefox is good too but I tend to do my stuff like this:

Firefox: my casual surfing (cnn.com/ amazon, etc)
                            Opera: lb stuff

                            I.E.: never used it.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.
