Drag performer electrocuted, dies on stage
    Published: 08-12-2006
A contestant in an international drag festival, held in Manila, Philippines, collapsed on stage after an apparent electrocution, in full view of a large crowd on Sunday.

The outdoor show came to a halt when performer, under the name of Joan Montegracia, walked barefoot across the metal stage, picked up the microphone, and fell to the floor.

Inspector Reynaldo Valdez, community precinct commander, said that Montegracia was one of twenty drag performers in the pageant organised by a group Menchi.

"The victim was the third to be called onstage to impersonate actress Aubrey Miles," said witness Brian Cabardo, 22, a college student.

He said Montegracia took the microphone and collapsed before uttering a word.

The audience apparently thought the fall was part of the act and applauded and cheered loudly, but were shocked when Montegracia didn't rise.

Montegracia was taken to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy is to be performed this week.

A show's traumatised MC was also hospitalised.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances of the accident. It appears that there may have been moisture on the stage and the microphone had an electrical shortage.

It has also been discovered that the victim was not a resident of the Philippines. His exact identity and nationality have yet to be determined.

They were "Shocked" ?   So the audience got shocked too?

That€™s what happens when you use a Spinal Tap Amp that goes to 11 and you don€™t ground the 3rd pin.

    This is Spinal Tap:

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
    Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
    Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause, blank look and snapping chewing gum] These go to eleven.
