one thing i notice around here in the PI is that the local ladyboys refer to themselves as 'gays'. Salma and i both agree that this term does not fit; they are ladyboys, baklas, transexuals, shemales, etc.....but not 'gays'. in any case, the "Miss Gay Mactan Island" pageant was held last night not too far from my hotel and i took a new friend and we had a great time. besides her, there were at least 15 new models for the site mixed in with the viewing crowd, as well as 500 other local filipinos and 9 beautiful ladyboys ['gays?'] on the stage competing for the crown. One was only 14; there was also a 16 and 17-year old. and in the crowd we could spot many other ladyboys who were very young and cute. oh ya.....there was also literally ONE goofy white guy who stood out like a sore thumb; it's hard to hide in a crowd like that when you are 6 foot 1 and have curly hair and tower over everyone.
the girls all took this event very seriously; they were all made up beautifully and did contests in swimsuits, evening gowns, talent and interview [in perfect English, by the way]. of the 9, 6 or 7 were absolutely stunning, and as i mentioned in the 're-investment' post they have a latin-american look to them that is really hot. the winner was very beautiful and looked brazillian or some shit.
by the way.......your friendly moderator became a minor celebrity amongst the Mactan people when they pulled me from the audience to be interviewed in front of the whole crowd, basically 'what the hell are YOU doing here'? LOL. when the guy asked me what i did for a living i hesitated for a second; how do you say 'pornographer' without raising eyebrows? so i said something about computer technician, and then he asked me who i was with; i pointed to a whole row of ladyboys that i was hanging with, about 15 in all, and quickly endeared myself to the crowd. by the way, apparantly these pageants are family affairs; there was no school today because of some local holiday and there were whole families there and lots of kids and old people having fun.
basically a cool night and a good time.....i got some decent pics and even some video and will be showing that on the site when we do the PI updates, so please hang for that. so far this trip is pretty cool and i am learning a lot, and it feels good to be understood by everyone with no problems. thailand seems to be trouble lately as far as getting my point across, more than ever before.
