  • Moving to Bangkok

On Monday 2nd of April I am moving to BKK for an extended visit of about 12-18 months. I will be basing myself in Bangkok but sure I will move about from time to time.

First few weeks will be looking for an apartment but with Songkran in the way I am sure I might just spend way too much time drinking and shagging.

Anyone who wants to meet up for a beer or some hunting let me know.

I'll keep an eye out for you at the usual sleazy bars. Wander over to Lucky Lukes, instead of Big Dogs. Better view, bar rail at talking height.

          Ozzie
Can you find out if the bars are open on the 6th April  and PM me( after you arrive of course). The 6th is Chakri day and no one has confirmed 100% whether the bars are open or not. I think they are but TIT....the crystal ball dont work for that place....

I was heading into Obsessions at some point but ill hit Guess first around 7pm( if its open)

I'll be in later in the month and looking to hook up with some BM drinking buddies. How do you guys meet up?

Tomcat-how long is your stay? Will you still be in town at the end of the month?

I'll be there on the 22nd.

The reason nobody knows for sure is that its at the behest of the police boss for Bangkok and he tends not to say one way or another until a few days beforehand. Having said that, in previous years, bars have tended to be open on this holiday (ie the police do not issue an instruction to close) however this is the first time this specific holiday has come up under the new government, hence most people are hedging. I'd say you have a 95% chance the bars will be open as normal on this holiday.

                Cheers

Well I guess I am in a prettly lucky position in that I work in IT in a very specialised field and can find work almost anywhere. I will be working for myself whilst in LOS by luckily I have managed to bring a few old customers over to my new consulting company.

Wish you all the best in your endeavours to move over. I actually am only intending to stay for 12-18 months. Really just road testing whether or not I could retire there. I have been there many times but only up to 4 weeks at a time so don't really know if I could spend my grey years there. Time will tell.

I'm sure you've probably sorted it out already but if not, do be aware that there are requirements for a visa for a long term stay. On a tourist visa exemption, aka 30-day stamp, you can now only stay 90 days within a 180 day period. A multiple-entry Non-Immigrant B visa, which requires that you leave the country every 90 days, might be the best option?
