  • Guide to living in Thailand

Here's YOUR chance to add your rules for living or visiting Thailand...

Between us all we can make this a bible of useful tidbits for us all to learn from and follow...

    I'll start...

RULE #1 ~ When eating in a restaurant NEVER EVER EVER order your appetizer and main course at the same time unless you want the main course first and the appetizer sometime before the last bus home!

This applies to ALL restaurants in Thailand including the big fancy Western ones.
    I'm really Sexist...

Don't be fooled into thinking a traffic light or pedestrian crossway means anything. Always assume the driver is illiterate, incompetent and blind.

                        Rule # 11

When exiting BTS or any elevator...always remember that Thais have the
right to push their way in before you have the chance to exit...But don't worry
you can always get off on a different floor or the next BTS statioin..

                          Rule # 12

When riding the escalator remember that Thais have the right to stop immediately
after the last step before they decide if they want to go right, left or straight...
I think the rule is they have 30 seconds or 30 minutes to make a decision...
but I'm not certain...In any event, you will get a lot of exersize walking the
                          wrong way on the escalator..

                            Rule #13

Always be on the lookout for "Crazy Ivans" - this is when a Thai randomly changes direction, with no prior indication. Normally associated with looking in a completely different direction than where one is going.

                              Rule #14

During any activity it is always acceptable to completely stop what you are doing and stare at a cute girl walking by. If someone else does this it is polite to pause for a minute to give them a chance to remember what they were doing or saying.

This rule applys to Thais and Farangs.
