A bar owner who has been here over 7 years (so he is closer to the news than most of us) tells me that Soi 6 is to be "flattened" in the next 12/18 months to make way for a new hotel...

This is gonna be a fucking huge hotel!

Personally, I can't see that happening.

I heard from more than one bar owners / Mamasan that they - besides of all the known pressure - fear the day that shows that the king is not only king but a human being. Surely we can expect a long mourning and total shutdown of all public entertainment.

What Pattaya is concernded there is a fear that the closing period will be used to dry out many red light businesses. And for those who can sustain the authorities might apply new rules to prevent them from reopening.
