  • Odd Happenings In Sunee

There were rumors of an impending raid in Sunee Monday night. Some bars closed for the night and other bars operated with a barebones staff of those who could pass both the age test and pee test.

One Thai boy who doesn"t work in a bar was stopped on his bike and given a pee test on the streets of Sunee.

These raids seem to be more focused on the gogos than the beer bars so it is not always obvious what"s going on.

It was reported in the Pattaya Mail that the Police recently raided Nice Boys...

    PM / Bunlua Chatree

"Thirteen underage boys were among those arrested during a raid on a Sunee Plaza gay bar by Chonburi Immigration Police.

The July 24 crackdown at the Nice Boys a-Go-Go came after an undercover officer attempted to purchase the sexual services of a 13-year-old. Investigators discovered that the club employed 13 boys between ages 13 and 15 and operated an illegal room where sexual acts were performed. The teens were sent to the Child and Women€™s Rights Protection office.

Police arrested Nirut Rakmooklang, 35, and charged him with human trafficking, running a prostitution business, employing minors and allowing minors on the premises. Ekachai Tomee, 30, was also arrested and additionally charged with forced child labor. Investigators also seized illicit CD-ROMs, files, work schedules, and other records.

Officers also tested 50 employees and 40 foreign customers for illegal drug use. Twelve of the workers tested positive for methamphetamine use and were arrested on narcotics consumption charges. All the foreigner tested negative and were released.

The Thais who tested negative were nonetheless taken to Pattaya Police Station where they had to pay a fine of 1,000 baht each for working in an illegal prostitution business."

      Interesting stuff.

It seems improbable that the thai authorities are actually getting serious about cracking down on underage employees. How does one interpret this news? Someone forgot to pay their bribes this month? Are thai authorities trying to make a small effort that they can point to when called upon by foreign authorities? Or is this the beginning of a concerted effort to crack down?

Lucky for those foreign tourists that Kamagra or Viagra aren't considered "illegal drugs".

My sources tell me that they are cracking down. It is not a good time to be a farang Sunee gogo owner as hey are even cracking down on the Thai owned bars.

The bar Kahuna posted about is supposedly closed for 60 days. The boys who previously worked there went to Tom Yum but that vbar didn"t open Monday night. A source told n=me there were only about 5 or 6 boys on stage at Mic My Boy Bar which is also Thai owned.

My understanding is that Sunee is in a different police precinct that some other parts of Pattaya.

So, in theory, does this mean that since I smoke weed every night, and have done so for years and years, that if I were, for whatever reason, ordered to take a drug test in Thailand and it came back positive for cannabis, I'd be in trouble even if I had not smoked any while I was in the country?

Yes Strocube, 100% guaranteed you would be charged with a narcotics offence. Where you smoked it doesn't matter.
                  Worth considering, what?
Mind you as its only a pot bust a few thousand baht and you would be on your way.

I agree with Foxxee - you would be in trouble

But if they don't find any on you, or in your hotel room, then they would probably hold you for the night and fine you and kick you out the next day.

If they found a small amount, then perhaps they would hold you a few days and at worst a large fine and send you out of the country.

I get the impression that they test for methamphetamine not weed.

It would depend on what proceedure they use or what test kits they have as to what would show up.

You can purchase simple test kits for company drug testing or fancy chemical analysers if you have lots on money to spend.

I would guess the Thai police are using simple colour change strips  -  similar to litmus paper.
Each individual strip will only cover a limited range of drugs  -  one family.
But they are cheap and the full range of strips cover a wide range of drugs.
Plus they are pretty reliable  -  ie. nearly idiot proof.

Probably the police on a raid would have just one or two types of strip but if they get a funny result (the strip colour change can be affected by a mix of chemicals) they may try other stips or send a sample off to a local hospital for a different test.

There are/were some really cute LB waitstaff in Nice Boys...

I especially recall the cute little femboyish Mae...

Yeah, Nice Boys is open again. First offense is supposedly 30 days, but that was less. The owner even though Thai, committed the unpardonable sin of not making payment on bribe money to the coppers.

I seldom pay much attention to what is or isn't happening from one day or week to the next. I just live my life and do my thing and other than my one Sunee bar I seldom know much of anything until well after the fact.
