  • Bangkok Day Trips

    Hi Chaps,

I would like some advice & help if possible please

My Father, Sister and Nephew will be having a 3 night stop-over in Banger's (en-route to Australia)  staring on July 23rd 2012.
They will be staying at the FuramaXclusive Sathorn Bangkok Hotel (map below)

The first night they will just be resting after their Flight will arrives at Survarnabhumi at 18-00pm.

I have changed their minds from a stop-over in Singapore telling them Bangkok would be more enjoyable and exciting

I will add that my Father is 75 years old and wears a false limb from his knee down on his right leg.
He's far from an invalid and is a pretty fit old chap so he can get around without many problems.
My Sister is 47 and my Nephew 17.
They will however be totally "green" to Bangkok and its culture as it will be their first time there.

Im gutted I cant be there with them to help, and this is where you guys come in.

On the second and third days they will be looking at seeing some of the sights of Bangkok, e.g The Temples, Ayutthaya, Floating Market etc etc and maybe a River Dinner Cruise at night or a decent Restaurant

Im hoping for suggestions from the likes of maybe Tim, Benni, Robert and Steve who live there or anyone else for that matter of reputable tour operaters in BKK as I dont them getting "ripped off".... TIT

I stayed at the Woraburi Hotel on Soi4 in February for one night and they had tours in the Foyer which seemed very reasonably priced, maybe the Furama will do the same.

So any help or advice at all would be really much appreciated, thanx in advance

    Cheers,
    Dave

Dave, I highly recommend this evening dinner cruise: Grand Pearl Dinner Cruise.

I've done it a couple of times with my gf and her friends - really a great way to cap a day off. They also have some entertainment during the dinner - Thai classical dance.

Seeing the city by night along the river is spectacular.

It can be less expensive if they make their own way to the River City Pier - one of the Skytrain stations stops very nearby - I'll have to check to see which one as I can't remember.

If you're feeling brave, you can also suggest they see the Calypso Cabaret Show at the Asia Hotel!

(BAM @ May 10 2012,21:52) I highly recommend the Grand Pearl Dinner Cruise too.

I'm sure your 17 year old Nephews going to know a thing or 2 about Bangkoks night life... he's got access to the internet right? Maybe you could sneak away and show him Nana ... he'll never forget that !!!!
He hasnt a clue about Bangkok's nightlife Im afraid Bam, hes more used to Snowboarding in France

Believe me if were in BKK I would show him Nana (excluding the LB establishments of course ), I know my sister would probaly enjoy it too as shes no prude

        Dave

On the Lobby floor of the Dynasty Grande Hotel is a Travel Agent - Travel Mart Tours (Thailand) Co.,Ltd.

I have used them for tours within the city of Bangkok; tours of Greater Bangkok; and trips both inside and outside of Thailand and have recommended them to friends, all of whom have had good experiences.

I have used other Travel Agents in Thailand, but despite Travel Mart's location (which is, of course, very convenient for me!) - I have found them efficient and competitive.

There is a girl there called Prang (No Dave, you would not want to, no-one would).

They have good English speaking guides.

They should be able to sort you out, but I suggest you work out a daily itinerary that your parents can cope with - then get Prang to give you a quote.

I totally like the idea of tour guides to explain and talk about the places on the agenda, I dont really see the point for example of say going to the Grand Palace and just looking at it without actually getting to know anything about it

Thanx guys for yor time and input, it really is much appreciated

As I've had guests come and go I've tried to find things myself, and usually failed. Most "must do in Bangkok" lists are the same, and shite.

I found this one to be a little more interesting. Maybe worth a look:

Send them to the roof-top bar in State Tower.  Beers are 300 each, so nurse it, but the view on a clear night is spectacular.  Actually, the top three on this list are great:

                http://www.bangkok.com/top10-rooftop-bars.htm

No shorts or flip-flops, from what I remember, but you can call and ask, or google it.

Thanx for all your help fella's, really appreciate it

Father, Sister and Nephew will have touched down Banger's this time in two weeks.

I have sorted out the Dinner Cruise and Day trip before they fly on to Oz following day.

I decided on the Dinner Cruise that I myself went on with my g/f Nook in Jan 2011 and one of which we both enjoyed very much.
