Anyone know any Thai Pharmacy websites?

Is there a list of drug prices in Thailand and whether particluar drugs are sold over the counter?

Hi PD, I am not aware of any Thai pharmacy websites, and if there are, it would likely be in Thai.

Most any medication is available over the counter, with the exception of narcotic and some control medications (some benzodiazapines, etc).

Prices tend to be lower than in western countries, especially for generic (no name) drugs. However, the quality of some Thai made generic drugs is suspect - no active ingredients, or varying strengths of drug instead of uniformity, etc.

agree with above but also most weston companys produce drugs for the thai market and these too are available over the counter. if you know what you want just ask for it and there shure to have it.
mind you if you go to boots the chemist they will probibly ask for a prescription

          Hi PD,

You do not need a prescription to buy most medicines in Thailand. All you need to know is the name and strength of the medicine.

Foreign prescriptions are never valid - for example prescriptions from Canada are not valid in the US and vice versa. A valid prescription is written by a local, licensed (in that country) doctor. In Canada for the mail order prescription business, they have Canadian doctors rewrite the prescriptions to make the process quasi-legal. The Canadian government is looking for ways to clamp down on this due to pressure from the US drug companies.

If you want to be sure it is available in Thailand, you can send me a PM and I will ask my pharmacist friend in Chiangmai.

I also don't believe there's a set price for drugs (or almost anything for that matter) in Thailand. I've paid varying prices just for fucking aspirin and I know that when I purchased Cialis I paid a significantly higher price than another board member who bought at the same pharmacy because he was a long-time customer who had negotiated the rate down. If you have specifics, I'm sure someone can give you a ballpark figure on what is a fair price to pay.

surprisingly, a lot of drugs previously available 'over the counter' in Thailand have been withdrawn - many are now only available from hospital pharmacies. It was getting a bit crazy - for example, who in their right mind is going to pop into a pharmacy just to pick up some chemotherapy drugs !!!!!!

As an example, Warfarin, which is a blood thinner is very difficult to obtain in pharmacies - reason being that its been used in the past to murder people - ie mixed in with some food in high enough doses, can easily kill someone.

Having said that, This is of course Thailand we are talking about and somewhere, everything is available, its just knowing where to go to buy it.

                Cheers

Bring your prescription so that you have the name of the drug and the dosage. Many drugs are also available under different names and as a generic. Use webmd or a pharmacy guide to find alternate names.

For example Prilosec in USA is also available under the generic name Omeprazole , and is sold here as Miracid for about $6 for a month supply. Same goes for most 'standard' drugs, chloesterol, blood pressure, etc...

If you need something semi controlled, anti-depressents or sleeping pills - try the pharmacies near Patpong. They are more likely to sell than other pharmacies.

Narcotics are a no-no, and they don't even know what Oxycotin is.

                  Haggle over price
