So, what exactly IS in a photographer kit? I can't speak for all photographer, but I can tell you what is in our kit. Most of the items below are kept in two bags we take to all shoots and we have a checklist we use to make sure everything is there before we leave. This doesn't include the items in my camera bag which usually consists of 1 video camera, 1 still camera, several memory cards, 4 rechargeable batteries, 1 non-rechargeable battery, 1 video camera light, 2 mini DV tapes, lens rag, 2 small plastic water-proof bags for each camera, under-water video housing unit which I also use for still pictures, cell phone, money for model, and bribe money for the police just in case.
The photographer kit bags contains the following...
Starting from the upper right just follow the black line.
Bottles of cold water. We take at least one bottle per model and Poo and I share a bottle. Bottles are filled 3/4 full with water and kept in the freezer. Before leaving for the shoot we top it off with water which will melt and should provide cold water for the length of the shoot.
2 small spray bottles of bug spray. 2 are needed so that model won't have to wait if we are using one of the bottles.
1 box of bug repellent. For our shoots in the woods, Poo will leave 10 minutes early so that she can have these lit and the bugs repelled before the model gets there.
1 candle. This helps when lighting the bug repellent.
1 lighter. Obvious.
1 small umbrella which Poo will hold above me to help keep camera gear dry when it's raining--it rains frequently here.
1 large umbrella which the model can use for shade. If we are shooting more than one model, we will have 1 large umbrella per model available.
1 large towel.
1 bathing suit. Often we will select 2 suits we think will look good on the model and then let them select which one they like best. This allows us to have some control over what they wear, but also allows their personality to show in their selection of the two.
1 set of matching panty and bra. We find that most ladyboys won't be wearing a matching panty and bra set or the set they have on will be very worn.
Jewelry. We have more than is shown and will select jewelry which matches what the model has on.
Razor. You know it baby!
Electric shaver with removable and adjustable guard, and adjustable blade. Battery operated.
Mirror.
Finger nail polish. We also usually take nail polish remover, but I notice it's not in the bag now--Poo must have raided the bag!
Comb.
Rope. Strange, but this has come in handy on occasion especially when shooting a gal on a rock being battered by waves as Poo will stand near by with the rope in hand ready to throw them a life line if needed.
Release with clipboard and pen. The reverse of the clipboard is a reflector--small, but better than nothing. We also have a larger foldable reflector we use to take, but you really need more staff than we take to use it.
Large folded mat.
Shoes. The shoes aren't for shooting, but are needed as the models often are not wearing shoes suitable to climb down the side of a mountain to some of our shooting locations.
Tripod. This one is used if we find ourselves in an unexpected situation in which we need one as if we KNOW we will need one we will take a larger and better functioning one.
This list seems to work well. If we discover that we needed something else, we add it to the list--like the razor and then the electric shaver. Yet, if you have suggestions of other things that might be of use, let us know.
