This is something I've never understood. In order for your question to make sense, if I'm understanding you correctly, you are assuming everyone has their browser window open full screen.

I NEVER DO THAT.

I keep my browser window just wide enough to avoid the scroll left-right bar at the bottom, and as tall as the screen. I keep my screen resolution high, so I have plenty of room in the background behind my browser window.

I keep the browser window to the far right, so I have maybe 1/3 of the screen still visible. There I keep all my desktop icons for other programs I might open. I can also see my email if I have that open, Photoshop, my thumbnail/slideshow program or whatever else I'm working on.

If I'm wanking, I usually have browser window on top, thumbnail behind that (with about 2 inches of spcae open below it) and a folder window with video files peeking underneath that. I may jump back and forth between looking at the web, images I have already downloaded, and videos I already have.

I like to keep as many things as possible visible on my desktop at once.

Stogie, if you want something to look good on any width screen, use the HTML tage for percentage width for your tables instead of specific pixel width. That way you can plan your page for 640 or 800 pixels wide, but if it is wider, the tables will automatically stretch proportionately.
