My favorite is a thin crust pizza diavola baked on wood fire.

    Ingredients:
    - pizza basis (duh!)
    - garlic
    - salame typo nostrano
    - mozzarella
    - red chili peppers

    had one today in Bellinzona.

I think Naples is the home of pizza. They make them smaller & with less ingredients, cheese & one other thing. Emigrates  first to New York, they got bigger, more stuff on top & then out to Chicago it was all about the thick dough & layers of stuff.

The quality of the flour & the way the dough is kneaded & aerated marks the real difference for a pie, it's tough to do right. Especially in regions with bad flour.

the best pizza in Pattaya, I guess that is what the thread is all about, is the pizzeria on soi Bhukao next door to Q&D Suites.

I think the one Lefty was referring to, where that tall LB used to work, Kwang her name. Very long legs, loved to watch TV while getting shagged...but that's another thread.

(s69 @ May 01 2010,02:29) I had the best in Cannes! truly unbelievable them being french and offering a better dish than their own cuisine....! comes to show that Italian food is just great(when u trim the fat!)
I had exactly the same experience. Maybe we ate at the same restaurant...

It was the week of the film festival & every cafe, restaurant was full with queues at any place that didn't take a booking.

We lined up at this smart place on the Croissette & were seated after waiting nearly 2 hours. I was hungry enough to eat anything & when the others all ordered pizza, what else was I to do?

It was fantastic! The best I have had anywhere & in my experience, the French make better pizza than the Italians.

As for personal preferences, the two mentioned above by Blonde Havoc & Manarak - they seem diametrically opposed in what they like, one being spicy, the other sweet.

I will pass on "a ton of cheese" & the sweet sauce thanks BH. Push over Manarak & gimme a slice of that "Diavolo" please. A little eggplant or artichoke to break it up would be better still, IMO.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

(katoeylover @ May 01 2010,02:23) Pizza actually goes best with a sangiovese based wine from Tuscany.
I guess that would depend on the toppings   Although granted the Shiraz might be a bit on the heavy side. I like a Nero d'Avola myself. Let's start a wine thread, that's sure to get the parochial hackles up

Was that when you went to promote that Pattaya Obsessions Short film Paccie ?

That'll be next year's festival. I expect the Palme d'Or at least...

The festival runs the week before the Monaco Grand Prix & as we had days to fill before the race, a tour of the coast was in order.

Before dinner we spent a pleasant few hours in the Terrace bar of the Carlton Hotel right on the waterfront where Hollywood bigshots shmoozed with actors, producers & wanna-be's all posturing to be noticed or hidden depending on how famous you were.

By a fluke we scored a table right in the middle of everything & sat there drinking Noilly Prat's & G&T''s & soaked up the surreal scene while doing our best impression of being cool.

At one unforgettable moment, a very tall young babe approached us. She was looking for a seat & we had the only spare seat to be had. I almost had a heart attack as she approached us & spoke something in French.

I made a vague gesture towards the chair indicating she could sit but trying hard to show that I was so world-weary of fame that I wasn't fussed whether another 6 foot tall super model type joined us or not. The G&T's had kicked in...

My mate tells me at that moment she looked over to another babe who pulled a Gallic shrug with that look on her face "i don't who the fuck they are" & with 2 strides of impossibly long thin legs, she was gone.

At times like that, it is easy to hate guys like George Clooney but would she have really made me happy?

You bet ya arse she would have...

Anyway, the pizza tasted great & I apologise for going    to reminisce about an afternoon that has nothing to do with anything.

(whore @ May 01 2010,02:02)  Have you been to Italy?
Yes we have the mafia in carlton

                  And lots of restaurants too

But traditional Italian style i dont rate...

We have evolved here from that style and I don't really enjoy pizza another other way than the aussie pizza with the LOT.

(guydesavoy @ Apr. 30 2010,17:43) There are Italian communities in many countries who brought the 'old recipes' with them. I guess nothing beats a good rustic pizza in an Italian village though...

Maybe KL has tried a nice wood-fired calzone with a Margaret River shiraz on his travels
Yes indeed, but they cant get the right and fresh ingredients...

I quite often jump in join them. Why should they have all the fun?

And only good shiraz will do. A couple of us chipped in & bought a pallet of Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna one time...    but that's another story.

And yes, Mr Guydesavoy... who are you really? I am sure you have previously posted under another name but nobody can confirm that.

Are you really Bigmick in disguise?

(Steff @ May 01 2010,00:21) I believe pizza, as we know it and are are referring to it as, was an American invention and not Italian. I could be wrong...
You are...You can blame us Yanks from Bumfuck USA for a lot of things (as you already have) but you can't fucking blame us for pizza...

In France I'd say syrah too   As for the pigs... I think a nice little cabernet from Washington State would go better with pork (one of those ones that makes you feel like you've been shooting up viagra the morning after)
