  • Jeez that's awful. All the buildings are as one on most Sois so i can see how it can spread. Lucky nobody was hurt, most likely because there are no tourists around.

    • Wonder if the hotel was emptied and all doors opened before that paid arsonist/owner set the blaze. This pandemic is going to make a lot of desperate people commit crimes to get money or save what they have. It was a very popular business decision in the Philippines when I lived there. Expect to read more about arson in all countries. Mr. C is a bitch. Wonder if the fire inspectors are willing to take money to corrupt the investigation. Maybe furloughed/fired employees might burn down a business for revenge. Human nature at it's worst.

      • It just says the fire started on the third floor and 2 rooms were gutted. The 2 rooms gutted were occupied by two couples that work on walking street.
These people were not in their rooms at the time but lost all their belongings. Seeing that the 2 occupied rooms were the ones burned out might lead you to believe that they caused the fire by leaving a hot plate on or something.

Most businesses in Thailand don't have insurance that would allow them to burn down their own business to collect the money.
So I doubt this is arson from them trying to destroy their business on purpose. That is a first world scam.
        Plus they had customers.

I would refrain from spreading false rumors as there is no claim I can find in your article of arson .

Also, this thread is about returning to paradise, so please lets keep the story's here about 'what's new' in coming back to Thailand and what that means to us and perhaps some reminiscing.

          • The other fire where they were storing flammable material in an old wooden warehouse, that is classic Thailand.

Every propane cylinder I see in Thailand looks like it is past it's due date and refilled too many times...

I think last time we stayed in 7 different rooms there between the 3 of us.
Good location and mostly decent rooms.
The View Talays in Jomtien are essentially the same but a little older and way cheaper.

                    • VT 6 is not the most glamorous location but it is the most convenient for walking to all the action. There is a bar in Jontien called Kattys Bar i would like to checkout if its still there...I see there are markets there and a sort of walking street but it looks like its for gay guys mostly . Worth checking out the LB scene there for a night. I remember we ate at a nice restaurant there after hanging out on the beach in '14 ( and a storm blew in fast) but I never looked beyond that.

                      • There is actually 2 ladyboy bars in Jomtien. There may be gay establishments around Jomtien but that certainly isn't the main focus of that area.
Without King's bar there, the View Talay 6 location is not as appealing. The location is fine but the beach is not good for swimming and seems like something different might be nice. You can be at Pattaya Walking street in 15 minutes by baht bus from Jomtien and go down to the much nicer beach at any time. It is still about 15 minutes to get to walking street from View talay 6 also. There is alot of nice restaurants over there including that one steakhouse I posted a while back.

So as far as distance to Walking Street the other View Talays are about the same distance away.

Like this Junior Penthouse at View Talay 5 which is right on the main road and near the beach. ฿1200 per night or ฿18,000 per month

                        • I have visited this condo before. It is very nice for a long term stay. Lots of hairy hippies in the elevators and hallways with ugly Thai broads. Bet ya pot and ice is easy to score downstairs. Wish they would build a world class casino below to supplement the ladyboy bars and new Kat shows. Then lots of rich tourists will come. Chinese love to gamble. Maybe get a Macau investor to build the casinos just collect rent and taxes. Then more Kats younger and prettier will come down from Isaan. I think last year was a dry year for ladyboys because the tourists were not coming as much as they used to. Recession. Now seems like a Depression is a possibility after a double high on the DOW yesterday. Vaccine or not we are continuing a dangerous economic disaster like the post 1929 era.

But I like the hotels on Soi 7 and 8. Just walk out the door, cross the street, grab a hooker date or a nice meal, and return for a rest or fun. I just like walking shorter distances to bed. Do like the room service changing my sheets every single day. In Rio it's only once a week. Fuckers they. Sunshine Hotel has 3 swimming pools. the one downstairs is nice and icey cold because it stays in the hotel building's shades. The rooftop has bright sunlight until the Hilton Hotel (Central Festival) blocks it. Will not swim in the filthy waters of Pattaya Beach. It's now nice for sunning on the newly expanded sand beach. I think the beach vendors should be allowed to mark off large square tracks of sand and place beach chairs, little tables, and even a tent for private whoopies. Make large areas for the Russians who love to socialize and small areas for guys like me who like privacy. Let the sunbathers make their own plots with their folding straw mats and enjoy their tans. Too bad there's no nude beach which are popular in Europe. Hate that Hawaii arrests them even though their string bikinis are outrageous. If Pattaya wants to recover economically they will need to think what we tourists wants and give it to them. Hedonism is the name of the game, and Thailand does it very well for a lower price. Thailand should continue as the top international destination in the world.

                          • I would like to stay at Jontien and give it a whirl. I just like the walking around close to the condo "idea" i guess. But your right, transportation is cheap and plentiful. The beach is much nicer and the atmosphere maybe nicer. I guess its 1 bus to Walking street from Jontien.? Then you can hop on and go all the way to TJs but i remember switching busses somewhere in the trip where the route turns back to beach road.
