Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Japan are a well disciplined team with some set piece specialists -I dont think they can win but they can go beyond the grop stage, Paraguay are under-estimated but Chile are a young side and for all their enthusiasm I don't see them getting beyond the knockut stage -however, if I was asked to choose between those two South American teams and Uruguay I wouldn't know who to choose.

I note few BMs favour Portugal's chances this year...

Could it be Colonila/Imperial? The Dutch colonised the Cape in the 17th century -maybe they will return to claim another prize??

            No offense taken...

I thought everyone was just being nice in not saying anything about my choices. In my tedious way I only wanted to make the point that some underdogs will get up.

I can study the form as well as the next man, I can read the goat entrails, scatter chicken bones for a sign, but the most informed tipper will never beat the luckiest tipper.

And luck will play a role in determining the outcome. It always does. As I wrote, if none of my tips get up, I was dumb for thinking so, but if one of 'em does, I'm a genius.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

No way. England will be under too much pressure and do the Yanks over. I don't know much about the Yanky team but I can't see them doing too much better than North Korea=shithouse.

Been watching all the coverage here in Ireland which has been great so far.

They showed the opening ceremony which I thought was the best I've seen since Italia 90.

They gave the run down of all the teams and after watching that, you could not rule out the US getting points from England tomorrow night.

Azza I respect your opinion in not thinking Football (soccer for you) is the greatest sport in the world, but you have to admit, it is definatly the most popular, dont you think so?

I'll be rooting for the socceroo's come their games

Soccer is a great game for sure, and i even played it as a kid...

But i just cant get into the game as a spectator and i'm yet to see a game of soccer ever compare to a great game of AFL (no point debating as its what you a brought up on).

The highlights clip though, that's another story .. greatly entertaining

As for popular Whore... i think there is no argument in that nor passion (but i don't think popularity determines what makes a great sport) c.f. cycling in Europe

                              My tip is Spain.

I said a similar thing four years ago on this topic.

World cups are usually won by teams close to home.

Only one South American team has won in Europe, Brazil in 1958. No European team has won on the American Continent. Only Italy came close in USA with a draw and lost on penalties having a few injured players.

So work out whom the seven winners of the world cups are and where they won and then and you will see my point.

Now another twist. Brazil won the only world cup held outside Europe and the American continent.

Now it is in South Africa also outside Europe and the American continent.

Therefore I believe it will favor the Europeans as they are in the same time zone and Africa been colonized by Europeans. What does this have to do with it? Probably nothing. I€™m just a believer in Historical karma and what goes around comes around.

I truly believe the World cup will be won by one of the top teams again. A tournament lasting five and bit weeks will always favor the more professional teams. When I say professional I mean countries that have players who are automatic selection choices for their clubs in the top leagues in the world. And I mean the whole squad of 23. Not just 5 or 6 in the starting line up.

5 weeks is a long time in football and the longer the season the more the better teams win out. And its teams that win not players.

If it was a 2 weeks tournament then yes the pool of countries who could win will increase.

Go Aussies (followed by the Ities)
