(bbb2k2 @ Jan. 02 2008,17:17) I have to admit I'm mainly a IE user myself, I really don't know why, I guess it's just a bad habit.

I was FF all the way 'til IE7 came out, it took a day or so to get it 'nice' but I like it.

This site and around 50% of my regularly visited sites I use FF, the rest I use IE for some strange reason.

Oh, and there's 8 sites setup in Opera so when I fire it up I have 8 tabs already there with the pages being downloaded, takes a while to get used to having 3 browser versions running.

My personal best is 42 different tabs across 3 browsers before something gave way, great thing with FF is when it recovers you get a chance to resume where you left off...

Asus is due to show off what it calls the "next generation" of its elfin Eee PC Linux-based sub-laptop at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week. The unit is almost certainly going to come with WiMax wireless broadband connectivity.

It may come with an 8.9in screen - larger than the current model's 7in display - too, if a number of Asian news reports from the last few days are to be believed.

Asus itself said it will show off Eee PC 2.0 as CES - it's already inviting attendees to come to an event it's co-sponsoring with Intel and US carrier Sprint. The meeting's focus is WiMax, and while the wireless technology is likely to dominate, the presentation will also include "next-generation mobile solutions (including the next-generation Eee PC)".

Industry moles maintain the machine will also sport a bigger display - one of the key criticisms of the Eee PC. A larger display would allow the unit to run at a higher native resolution than the current 800 x 480 model, which is fine for the unit's specialised Linux-based GUI, but less friendly to Windows or standard Linux user interfaces.

Intriguingly, it's claimed Asus is looking to match the price of the current model with the new one, presumably because it's worked out the slightly higher cost of the screen can be more than balanced by higher Eee sales.

In June 2007, Asus showed a compact 10in Eee PC, the 1001, at the Computex show in Taipei. You can see pics of it at Akihabara News here - but it's clearly a different, larger design to the current Eee PC 701 rather one of today's machines with a 10in LCD in place of the 7in panel.

Hi guys,
OK, i've decided to buy one of these for when
i'm running round BKK/Pattaya..but i will take my
little 13"Packard Bell with me too..
Stupid question but how can i get an Internet connection?
Here i use a mobile modem,but do they work in BKK?
I do have a phone line in my apartment but i dont want to
use it..

Wifi is easiest, many hotels have it for free. Otherwise you can use a commercial wifi network like 'True Mobile'
which will offer access at Starbucks, Au Bon Pain and other places. for True Mobile you buy a prepaid card with xxx hours

You can get a dialup ISP account easily, they sell pre-paid cards which include 20,40,100 hours. However you might not be able to use it in a hotel depending on their phone system.

Search google for 'free wifi bangkok' to find some locations.

like to be able to use it in my room.. I've become rather addicted
to this forum so i don't really want to hog the computers in any
of the other girls rooms...

do you have landline(fixed line) in your apartment?

If so, your telephone provider may be able to set you up with broadband (I don't live in Bangkok so I don't know if most exchanges there are enabled for broadband - give them a call). Then you can get a wireless router (they may even provide) so you will have wireless/wifi access at home (means you don't need to connect any wires to laptop for internet access - you can even surf in bed as I am doing right now!)

Stay in a hotel that offers free WiFi. Plenty do.

Dial Up won't work as there is no modem in the Asus EEE!

note : the wireless routers have a certain fixed range so if they're too far away from you, you may not be able to receive their signal

getting DSL installed is a pain, and can take upto 2 months. Unless you are spending a LOT of time here I doubt that its an option (and I doubt its your name on the lease).

Dialup would require buying an external usb modem, but those are cheap. Only an option if you have a land line in your room.

getting lucky and stealing wifi from neighbors (is your building popular w franangs ?)
using Free wifi ( various bars, some shopping malls, ... )
using commercial wifi
Using your mobile phone as a GPRS modem - this is expensive and would require using a cable or bluetooth, its also difficult to setup
