well, I USED to be a miserable ol' bastard!  but no more, I enjoy my life immensely now and have a very open mind when it comes to travel and doing shit.  anyone that rides a motorcycle around southern Vietnam for 3 weeks alone has got to be pretty open-minded and I have slept everywhere from literally a bamboo-slatted floor to a 5-star hotel and everywhere in between.

I just didn't find much in the Philippines to entertain me and the people are frankly annoying as hell. reminds me of when I go to Mexico; if you have never been there, just trust me.  Too bad because the ladyboys really ARE beautiful, fun, sexually exciting, and easier to get along with than the  Thai's, whose idea of good a date is saying "up to you" all night and looking at their cell phone.

I would love a good ladyboy relationship and have given up on finding it in Thailand; I am not a sucker and I am smart enough to know those people don't want me for anything more than my ATM card, so I only have sex there, and not look for love.  In the PI I am sure I [or you, or anyone] could find real romance, but then you would have to live there and it's just not worth it.

Hint; I like Cambodia and Indonesia more than the PI; that speaks volumes

Go to Boracay. Nicest beach place I have ever been to, including Phuket. And not a go go bar in sight! (Yes, I had to pinch myself when I wrote that as well!!)

I agree with Jai Dee on Cebu/Mactan. You don't have the "infrastructure" of a bar scene, which is a bit of a shock to the system after NEP and Soi Bangla!

But I LOVE the English speaking of the Pi lb's.........a HUGE breath of fresh air after the "up to you" monologue of Thailand

There are many beautiful places to see in the Philippines. I have been to beaches and islands all over the world and can honestly say that 4 of my top 5 destinations are in the Philippines. Boracay Island, Panglao island in Bohol, Malapascua in Northern Cebu, El Nido in Palawan and Bintuan in the Eastern Part of Cebu have blinding white sand and crystal blue water. The best thing to do is to find a lb or girl that you get along with and take her there to get away from the touts and filth.

Manila is the filthiest and most horrid city in Asia...bar none. The women in the Philippines are genuinely kind and helpful but the men are nothing but beggars and thieves. In a country where the population has doubled in the last 20 years, people are so poor that they are resorting to anything possible to extract money from tourists. Filipinos are short-sighted and only think about today. If pissing off tourists is part of the process for getting a little extra piso, they could care less that the particular tourist will not come back. Thus, the only real tourists left in the PI are a small amount of sex tourists and overseas Filipinos coming back to visit their relatives. Overseas remittance payments have now contributed to 50% of the total GDP. This has created an entire country of enabled people who dont have to work and can just sit on their ass drinking Red Horse until the next Western Union payment comes in. As soon as one family member starts receiving money from an overseas relative, every relative for miles quits their job and has their hand out. They put pressure on family members to share and they do because its part of their culture. Whats strange about this is that Filipinos in the USA are model immigrants and are extremely honest and hardworking.

sounds typical....many Thai's wait for that big pay-off also, where a member of the family will meet a westerner and be able to support them all. The Philippines may have good beaches and I like that, but I need something to do at night and that is why I will stick with Phuket. To me, that is still the best place in the world; I always stay in Patong so I can have the nightlife and then just take off in the morning to somewhere where I can be alone and read or listen to my Ipod in peace. I have found a few places in the north of the island about 30 KM away where I feel like I am on a deserted island and that is what I like. The drive up there on my moto is always nice too, Phuket has some wonderful scenery.

well, I like white sand and crystal blue water like in the Carribean and the only places that consistently have that in Asia that I have seen is in the Visayas in the Philippines.   The sand in Thailand is usually a tan and light brown color with hints of white and the color of the ocean is normally polluted or on the green/brown side.    Thailand women are gorgeous and the scenery is superb but the beaches are just OK IMHO.

Guys, my ex-wife is from the Philippines, and I live in Thailand. I've been to the Phil more times than I can remember. I don't spend more than 1 night in Manila. Go to Boracay! It is more laid back than Phuket, with several nice, very honest LBs. If you want real fun, take 4 LBs from Manila with you for a few days. The boat will have the captain and 1 10 year old boy, no more.

As for Phuket, I've been there about 30 times in the last 2 years. 3 weeks ago I went and the fucking toots were so bad I had to get off the beach after 1 hour. I couldn't sit and read a book. I've never seen it so bad. Maybe because the tsunami they are desperate, but it was crap on the beach (my favorite daytime event).

All that being said, you cannot compare LB paradise, Thailand, to anywhere else; but Phil is not a shit hole if you go to the right place.

you guys can keep it......I will never return there, ever

Phuket, Samui, Phangan, {Rip} Phi Phi, Koh Tao, even that craphole known as Pattaya Beach; I will never have to leave Thailand to have my fun and that is where I will stay, with the occassional trips close by to get a visa stamp.

I have been learning diving and doing it in the Phils and must say it's a nice place as you go to the right spots..I agree!
I've done some diving in Phuket and didn't enjoy it much but because it was in a winds/currents period (October). However, I remember we went to one of those very tiny islands at the south of Phuket and we moored nearby a deserted beach with emerald water that was really paradise.

But, care to elaborate the FOUR lb's thingy in the boat?? Didn't quite get it

u gotta go with a local who can organize and make sure you go to all the right places here in the Philippines....remember? the Philippines is an archipelago with a bunch of islands so imagine all that coastline and how many darned good beaches that would be all in all! it's a matter of spotting and going with someone who can take you to the right places and knows how to deal with locals who can be like mosquitoes biting you from every direction for a piece of $$$ LOL

i sympathize with Jaidee on his experience...but i affirm him with his conviction that Philippina ladyboys are good all around girlfriend material!!! ehehe

bugeye29, the staff speak some Japanese, so I would guess possibly Japanese. However, Koreans are big visitors to Manila as well. The Amazing Show (lb cabaret) is owned by Koreans and they have many Korean tour groups booked for the shows.

I must have walked past that last trip.
I stayed at rothmans hotel not far up the road, but too close to the casino

Looking forward to getting back to phils April 10

... forgot all about Winklergirl aka Lisa until i clicked that link & saw how nice she looks today, now in Singapore according to her blog.. Phil LBs are catching up as far as looks go but the Thais still outnumber them, and it may take a few more decades before they can equal them in the numbers dept.
.. I'm not young enough to know everything, and not old enough to have done everything..
