  • Getting married to LB..

Here is a good info for some of you who wants to get married to a LB...
Sorry its a cut and paste job...
If any couples out there are interested in the British civil partnership system .....
The process is pretty smooth but a little expensive. British citizens can register a civil partnership if they have a partner of any nationality (e.g. Thai, Lao, Mayasian etc) EXCEPT Vietnamese, at the British Embassy in Hanoi, or the British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The British Embassy in Bangkok does not register marriages or civil partnerships.
Your Non-British partner need to first obtain a "Certificate of Non-Impendiment" (to say he's never been married) from the local authority where he resides - in Thailand this would be the local Tesaban office. Assuming that the document is issued by a Thai local authority, it then needs to be translated into English, and both documents notarised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chaengwattana Road, north Bangkok. The initial certificate is free, and notarisation and translation cost about 800 baht.
After which these papers need to be notarised by the British Embassy in Bangkok, at a rather higher fee of just under 2000 baht. Both parties should be present with passports. It takes 24 hours to complete.
The next step is to download two forms from the UK Embassy website in Hanoi at:
    http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet....0680861
Both of you need to complete one copy each of the declaration, and the British partner must also complete one Notification. You can also download detailed advice and guidance, as details may change after this posting. This form must be kept and presented to the UK embassy in Vietnam.
Its also a good idea to email the embassy to confirm their requirements. They are very helpful and offer prompt replies.
By now you'll be ready to travel to Vietnam. The first process is submitting the forms - you ave to be resident in the Hanoi Embassy district, or the Ho Chi Minh (HCMC) Consulate District, for seven clear days before you can submit the registration application, so yoiu need to decide first if you're going to Hanoi or HCMC.
Nok Air and Air Asia both have daily flight to Hanoi, while Vietnam Airlines and Thai fly daily to Hanoi and HCMC.
After the required seven days is up, visit the Embassy/Consulate but be sure to check for holidays well in advance of planning your trip. The submission process is quick and almost painless if the office is not busy - a payment of 2,006,0000 Dong (about 4500 baht) is required when applying.
You must now wait at least two weeks while they literally "post the banns" on the consulate noticeboard. You can either travel around Vietnam, or return later (within three months maximum) to complete the process.
The final part means paying some hefty fees - 6,500,000 Dong for the registration, 2.006,000 for each certificate copy, and the same for each of two witnesses provided by the embassy (unless you bring your own!)
Then it's sign on the dotted line - and you're hitched!

69billy, thanks for posting the information - quite helpful for UK citizens who want to give it a try! Does this mean there might be wedding bells in the air for you and a certain Udon Thani lb? hmmm!

Naang Faa - yes, if you follow what is written, as UK recognizes same sex marriages now as part of the EU regulations that they have to follow now. If you have the Dong, the UK Embassy in Vietnam will do it for you, however you may have to become a UK resident until your partner can get her UK PR visa.

                    69billy,

thanks for the info regarding Vietnam or Thailand... what about Europe???

I am currently facing HUGE problems to do this in the European country where I live... It seems almost impossible. They do not accept marriage between people of the same sex (the case of 100% of Thai ladyboys even if they have taken operation) and the do not allow me to have Civil partnership because simply she is not a citizen of my country...

So basically I am in deep shit... and there is no legal case for me... It seems that I have currently lost the game... and I am losing my baby back to Thailand until she can come again with another invitation visa...
