Sounds like your getting some good experience there even if some the hard way .
I learned to never loose control (the hard way too) and when I get too f'd up my voice in my head says "hold on there big fella... keep it under control" .... means slow down some times or even time to go home other times...something I learned after a few bad experiences being very wasted! The shitty LB's will always prey on the late nite drunk farang heading down the street .

Yes this is always why it is better to have a wingman or two. Many of the bad decisions a person will make in Thailand is when you are drunk and alone.

Strength and safety in numbers .. usually why all stories of 2 LB against 1 farang always ends badly for the farang..

[QUOTE=outlander5;n927441]Hi Neil There is a lot of advice on this forum on what to do when going out drinking in Thailand and for that matter anywhere away from friendly Canada!! Carry only cash and about as much as your willing to lose or spend that night leave the rest and all cc & debit cards drivers license and passport in safe at hotel!!

You probably know this mistake its common I've forgotten myself but i've read advice from Crag and other BM and its worth heeding as you well know now!!

I am similar to outlander5. I leave everything in my safe and only take out what I plan to spend that night plus an additional "reserve fund" I tuck away in a separate part of my wallet. If I screw up and lose it well that sucks but it only sucks for one night. The next day I can just "reload" and go again. I have yet to be robbed in Thailand (knock wood) but I find only carrying cash is the best way to go for peace of mind.
BTW it is also a good idea to photocopy your passport and medical insurance and put it in your wallet...
anyway, this is an excellent thread, so many potential spin-off topics.

            Yes I've done these things
however I was told to always carry your ID with you, not just a copy. Having copies is an excellent idea. I think thai people are always concerned about their ID cards ( certainly LB's) but if a tourist gets id'd I suppose it's at your room... but then again it's also a reason to get a police escort back to your room for positive ID ...and the police will say.."while we're here let's look through your room"..I usually keep my wallet up front and have a tendancy to wear cargo shorts with a few pockets buttoned or zipped to mitigate theft/loss and carry my camera and or phone.

Thanks for the advice, I'm back in Canada now. I don't really card about the drivers license since I need to renew it anyway, and it wasn't much money so I didn't lose any sleep over it. If I had to do it again, I'd probably do the exact same thing so I have a crazy story to tell back home!

I envy you guys. Why Not is a great place to start. I have never been to the volleyball competition (and parties) because can't get out of work in November. Last year I even asked Tony to switch the dates to January 555. Of course he declined.
Anyway, bet you will have a blast.
